Twins rotation avoids scare; Hughes DL stint won't last long

Twins starter Phil Hughes expected back on time after heading to the 10-day DL last week with biceps inflammation.

Sure, this may be the best one-two punch the Twins have had since 2006.

However, after Ervin Santana and the recent emergence of Jose Berrios, the rest of the Twins starting rotation is full of question-marks. Phil Hughes sits on the 10-day DL, Hector Santiago provides sporadic consistency, Kyle Gibson's return from his demotion to Triple-A hasn't gone well so far, and Adalberto Mejia has started as many games in the minors has he has in the majors this season.

Phil Hughes is one of those latter-half rotation pitchers the Twins need to rely on this season. Hughes was sent to the DL after his last start on May 21st in a loss to Kansas City. He is dealing with inflammation of his biceps on his throwing arm. However, luckily for Twins fans, Minnesota got a positive medical report on their right-hander.

“Nothing significant. We’re fairly pleased with (the MRI results).” Manager Paul Molitor said Wednesday. Although Hughes will undergo more tests, Molitor believes he will come off the DL when eligible.

The result is very encouraging, for a rotation that desperately needs Hughes' arm and experience, if the Twins want to remain atop the AL Central in 2017.
