Twins send Florimon, Herrmann back to minors

The Minnesota Twins have sent shortstop Pedro Florimon and outfielder Chris Herrmann back to Triple A Rochester.

Florimon, who was Minnesota's Opening Day shortstop, was hitting .108 on the season. He was the only position player Ron Gardenhire had on the bench when he filled out his lineup card Thursday.

"I didn't think it was going to happen, but you had to make some changes," said Florimon. "I'm not hitting good. I have to go down and get my comfort back and see what happens."

Herrmann was struggling at the plate too, he was hitting just .125.

Outfielder Aaron Hicks is eligible to come off the seven-day concussion disabled list on Friday. He will be one of the players added, as long as he clears concussion protocol.

"Hicksie's supposedly fine, and if everything is clear and they run that test, he'll probably be one of the guys," Gardenhire said.

The other player would be a surprise, according to Gardenhire.

Hardball Talk reports Danny Santana is now in line for an extended look at shortstop. Santana has had a nice start to his big-league career, but his minor league numbers indicate he's far from ready.

Earlier in the day the Twins re-called former Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez when Sam Fuld was placed on the seven-day concussion list.

The Twins will start a three game series in Detroit on Friday.
