The Twins have signed first round draft pick Nick Gordon. Gordon, a shortstop, was selected by the team as the fifth overall pick, in last week's MLB Draft.

Gordon comes to Minnesota out of Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida.

The Twins signed him for $3,851,000 on Monday. His signing bonus, which is right in line with the slotted value for the No. 5 pick, is the fourth highest in Twins history. It trails only Byron Buxton ($6 million), Joe Mauer ($5.15 million) and Kohl Stewart ($4,544,400).

Gordon will report to the Twins' Rookie-level affiliate in Elizabethton, Tennessee, which opens its season June 19.

Gordon has strong blood lines. He is the son of former MLB pitcher Tom "Flash" Gordon, who pitched for parts of 21 seasons, and was a three-time All-Star. He is also the brother of Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon.

Gordon at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds has surprising power, while his speed, arm and defense all rate as plus tools.

As a Senior, Gordon was named the Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year. He hit .494 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 27 RBIs. He also stole 13 bases.

Gordon will report to Ft. Myers to participate in a Twins minicamp, before reporting to Elizabethton.
