Twins power-hitting rookie Miguel Sano was named the American League Rookie of the Month for August. It's the first time this season that Sano has won the award.

Sano has immediately impacted the Twins lineup by hitting 14 home runs and driving in 41 runs since he was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga on July 2.

His production exploded in August as the 22-year-old Dominican Republic native homered nine times, a rate which over the course of a full season would put him on pace for 54 home runs.

His .611 slugging percentage on the season meanwhile is third-best in Twins history.

Sano had his first career multi-homer game on Aug. 12 against Texas. He also homered in six of his final 12 games in August, including in back-to-back games on Aug. 17-18 and Aug. 23-25.

Sano leads AL rookies this year in on-base percentage (.403) and slugging percentage (.608). The only other right-handed hitters with higher slugging percentages during their age-22 season are Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio (.673 in 1937) and Jimmie Foxx (.637 in 1930).
