The Minnesota Twins were able to salvage a game from their three-game series with the Cleveland Indians, as the team beat the Indians 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at Target Field.

After 21 scoreless innings, Kennys Vargas finally got the Twins on the scoreboard with a solo home run to left field. It was Vargas' fourth Major League home run since being called up.

Vargas finished 3-for-4 on the day and scored a pair of runs.

Trevor Plouffe added a two-run double in the sixth inning to help the Twins reclaim the lead and Minnesota added one in the eighth after Vargas led off with an infield hit. Oswaldo Arcia followed with a single that allowed pinch runner Eduardo Nunez to score and put Minnesota up by 3.

That was all the run support that Twins starter Phil Hughes would need. He was back in his grove, as he worked seven strong innings and struck out eight. He held the Indians to one run on five hits to pick up his 14th win.

Glen Perkins worked a perfect ninth to pick up his 32nd save.

The Twins open a weekend four-game series with the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. That series will include a Saturday double header.
