Twins take North Carolina slugger Aaron Sabato in MLB Draft

Sabato is said to have a ton of raw power.

The first round of the MLB Draft featured not only Gophers starting pitcher Max Meyer going third overall to the Miami Marlins, but the Minnesota Twins using the 27th pick to take North Carolina power hitter Aaron Sabato.

Sabato, who hit 18 homers for the Tar Heels last season, has been compared to currently MLB sluggers Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber in terms of raw power, and he projects as a first baseman/designated hitter at the MLB level.

Those 18 homers were as a true freshman, and he followed that up with seven homers in 19 games as a sophomore before the COVID-19 pandemic cut the baseball season short.

More to come.
