Twins tame Tigers, 6-3; Morneau homers again

Justin Morneau had four hits to lead the Twins to a 6-3 win over the Tigers in Detroit Tuesday night.

Morneau started the party with a two-run homer -- his 15th of the season -- in the fourth inning. Trevor Plouffe made it a 3-0 lead for the Twins with an RBI double later in the inning.

The bases were loaded for Morneau in the fifth and he ripped an two-run double to deep right center to give the Twins a 5-1 lead.

Minnesota, which had combined to go 15-for-81 with runners in scoring position during their 8-game homestand, finally gave a pitcher some quality run support.

Mike Pelfrey took advantage.

Pelfrey pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out two for the win.

Glen Perkins picked up a gutty save. He gave up a single and a walk and had to face reigning Triple Crown winner, Miguel Cabrera, at the plate as the tying run.

Perkins struck Cabrera out to the end the game for his 29th save of the season.

Note: Joe Mauer missed the game after a dizzy spell during batting practice cut his night short; Pedro Florimon hit a solo home run in the game -- his eighth of the season.
