Twins manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed Wednesday the Twins will call up left hander Kris Johnson to start on Friday against the Colorado Rockies.

According to the Star Tribune, Johnson in on the 40-man roster and last pitched Sunday, so he is on the same schedule as Ricky Nolasco, whose spot he'll take in the rotation.

Nolasco was placed on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI confirmed he is suffering from a sprained right shoulder.

The Twins didn't announce who they would send down, but with the All Star break coming up before his next start, sending down Yohan Pino following his start on Thursday night would seem most likely.

Johnson is having a great year in Rochester. He is 8-4 with a 2.75 earned-run average, according to the Rochester Democrat Chronicle.

He started a game earlier this year for the Twins. Johnson held the Los Angeles Dodgers scoreless for 4 1/3 innings, but walked six.

Other options for the start would have included Trevor May or Alex Meyer.

May is still recovering from a calf injury. He is expected to start for Rochester on Sunday. Meyer, who replaced May, is scheduled to start the Future's Game on Sunday at Target Field.
