Twins top draft pick Royce Lewis is ripping the cover off the ball in the Gulf Coast League. In 13 games, Lewis is slashing .340/.426/.566 while picking up two home runs, six doubles and six stolen bases.

Not bad for a kid just months removed from playing high school baseball. With the way Lewis is hitting, he should be getting a promotion to Low-A Cedar Rapids soon.

The Twins opted to take Lewis over Hunter Greene, Brendan McKay and Kyle Wright with the No. 1 overall pick, which puzzled a few draft experts, but clearly Lewis is living up to his potential.

According to Baseball America, the shortstop checks in at No. 39 on the midseason top 100 prospects.

Rooker is hitting dingers

Brent Rooker, who was the team's compensation pick with the 35th selection in the MLB Draft, is also putting up impressive numbers in the Appalachian League. The slugger has already smacked six home runs and nine of his 21 hits this season have gone for extra bases.

Rooker was college baseball's best hitter last season and he led the nation with an .858 slugging percentage. He was named the SEC Player of the Year at Mississippi State.

The 22-year-old played first base and outfield at the college level but so far he's played all 13 minor league games in left field.
