Twins, Mastroianni hustle past Indians in extra innings

It took extra innings Tuesday night in Cleveland, but the Twins beat the Indians 6-5. The go-ahead run was set up by a 12th-inning Darin Mastroianni single. He then stole second and scored from there on an infield hit.

CLEVELAND -- It took extra innings Tuesday night in Cleveland, but the Twins beat the Indians 6-5. Alexi Casilla and Pedro Florimon had RBI singles in the 12th inning to break the tie.

The go-ahead run was set up with a two-out Darin Mastroianni single. He then stole second and then hustled home on Alexi Casilla's infield single.

Denard Span and Joe Mauer led the Twins with three hits apiece.

On the mound, it was P.J. Walters allowing eight hits in the first five innings before being relieved by Brian Duensing, who threw three shutout innings.

Minnesota's bullpen combined for seven innings, and didn't allow a run until Carlos Santana hit a solo home run off of Glen Perkins in the bottom of the 12th.

The win puts Minnesota in a tie with Cleveland for fourth place in the American League Central division.

Four runs in the fifth inning sparked the Twins past Toronto, 7-6 at Target Field Friday night. Darin Mastroianni collected his first major league hit and led the Twins with three RBI. Nick Blackburn struggled in five innings but the bullpen was fantastic as Alex Burnett, Jared Burton, Glen Perkins and Matt Capps held the Blue Jays to one run over the final four innings.

The Twins scored 10-runs in the second inning and wound up pounding the Indians, 14-3 in Cleveland Monday night. Justin Morneau, Josh Willingham and Ryan Doumit all homered in the inning. The Twins have been hot of late, winning eight of their last 11 games.

It was a nail-biter in Cleveland today as the Indians needed extra-innings to get past the Twins in a battle for last place in the American League Central Division.

Mitch Garver delivered the clutch hit in the 12th inning.

The Minnesota Twins have stolen 86 bases so far this season -- the second-best running team in the American League, according to The SportsXchange. On Tuesday, outfielder Darin Mastroianni became the fourth Twins player with double-digit steals this year. Ben Revere leads the ball club with 25 steals.

Samuel Deduno fired seven innings of two-run ball to lead the Twins over Indians, 7-2. The win puts the Twins into a tie for last place with Cleveland. Minnesota had been alone in last place since August 14.
