Verlander, Tigers take care of Twins, 6-1

As expected, Justin Verlander outdueled Vance Worley and the Tigers took care of the Twins, 6-1 Tuesday night in Detroit.

Verlander eased his way to the win with seven terriffic innings. The former MVP and Cy Young Award winner allowed just one run on five hits while striking out eight.

Worley caught Detroit leadoff hitter Austin Jackson looking for a strikeout to the start the game, but he went downhill quickly. Before he could finish the first inning he had allowed a two-run home run to Miguel Cabrera.

The Tigers scored another in the second and busted the game open with three runs off of Worley in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Prince Fielder -- his second homer in as many games.

Joe Mauer snapped a career-worst 0-21 streak with a single to in the third inning. He finished 1-4, lowering his batting average to .287.

Wilkin Ramirez led the Twins going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Tigers can sweep the Twins with a win on Wednesday. Scott Diamond will start for Minnesota while Anibal Sanchez starts for Detroit. First pitch is scheduled for 12:08 p.m. CT.
