Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says the third-quarter goal-line stand by his defense was key to the Vikings 23-6 upset win over the Houston Texans Sunday.

"For our defense to do that ... they really stemmed the tide," Frazier told reporters after the game. "Our guys ... understood the physicality that would be necessary (to beat Houston)."

Frazier also praised Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, even though he rushed for just 86 yards on 25 carries. The coach said Peterson, who didn't break the 100-yard mark for the first time in nine games, was held out late in the fourth quarter due to abdominal soreness.

"We didn't want to put him back in there once we had the game in hand," he said.

As for quarterback Christian Ponder, who threw for 174 yards and a touchdown: "Not being single is a plus for him." Ponder wed ESPN sideline reporter Samantha Steele last Monday.
