Vikes' Griffen is Defensive Player of the Month

He's on pace for 20 sacks!

A dominant five games in October earned Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen the NFC Defensive Player of the Month award.

Griffen racked up six of his team-leading 10 sacks on the season in October. The Pro Bowl 29-year-old has at least one sack in every game this season. He's also already tied a career high with two forced fumbles, and he still has eight games to go.

According to NFL Research, Griffen is just the third player in NFL history to record a sack in each of his team's first eight games since the league started tracking sacks in 1982. The two others to do it played for the Colts: Dwight Freeney (2009), Robert Mathis (2005).

Somewhat surprisingly, Griffen didn't get any love from writers in their midseason awards. The only players they considered for NFL Defensive MVP at the midway point are Jaguars defensive lineman Calais Campbell, Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier, and Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

The NFC Offensive Player of the Month is Carson Wentz. The former NDSU quarterback has led the Eagles to a 7-1 start.
