Vikings headed to Cincy for training camp battles against the Bengals

It's been a long time since the Vikings mixed it up with another team for joint training camp practices, but they're bringing it back this summer.

The Vikings announced that they'll travel to Cincinnati for joint practices with the Bengals for two days, Aug. 10-11. That means they'll be out of Mankato after only 13 days. They were in Mankato for 22 days in 2015.

"I think the joint practices will be great for our young team, especially at that time of training camp," said Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, who used to be the defensive coordinator in Cincinnati. "Having such a great relationship with Marvin (Lewis)and the Bengals organization, it makes it a perfect fit for us to practice there."

"You put yourself on the field with another team and let the competitive juices flow a little bit," Lewis added. "And it’s great that we could work this out with Zim."

Click the link above for the full Mankato training camp schedule. Players report to Mankato on July 28 and they'll be out of town after practice on Tuesday, Aug. 9. Then it's on to Cincinnati for two practices before the preseason opener against the Bengals on Friday, Aug. 12.

The only night session in Mankato this year is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6 from 7:15-9:15 p.m at Blakeslee Stadium.
