Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer loves defensive backs and he took another one in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night.

The Vikings selected Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander with their second-round pick. Alexander, 22, played two seasons at Clemson after he was a redshirt freshman in 2013.

At 5-foot-10, 190 pounds he has experience playing both on the outside and slot. He was named third-team All-American last season. He made 23 tackles, including two for loss and broke up five passes for the Tigers in 2015.

In 2014 as a freshman Alexander allowed opponents to complete just 20-of-57 passes that were thrown his way, and gave up just two touchdowns. The school notes that he didn't give up a touchdown pass over his final nine games.

He joins Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Captain Munnerlyn, Terence Newman and Marcus Sherels as returning cornerbacks on the Vikings roster.

The Vikings traded and dropped out of the third round with their other pick on Friday night. Minnesota will receive Miami's sixth round pick this year and a third and fourth round pick in 2017.
