The Minnesota Vikings are beginning a major push for a new stadium in the coming weeks to convince the governor to call a special session. Team VP Lester Bageley tells WCCO-TV the Vikings are negotiating a deal to chip in more than the 400-million dollars they’ve previously committed.

According to reports filed with the state Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, the Vikings spent about $115,000 lobbying state lawmakers in the first five months of 2012. Most of the money was from the team's vice president of public affairs and stadium development. Lester Bagley led the effort to secure public funding for a new NFL stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Third Vikings stadium proposal surfaces

The backers are a bit of a mystery, but a new proposal puts a new Vikings stadium north of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. The Star Tribune reports city leaders have seen the blueprints -- but officials aren't exactly sure who's behind the project. The Vikings are dismissing the plan, preferring to focus on their Arden Hills site.

Vikings stadium deal isn't done yet

Although the Vikings stadium bill was signed into law by Governor Mark Dayton on Monday, the stadium isn't a guarantee quite yet. It still needs to pass a Minneapolis City Council vote, which will be held May 25. Sources tell ProFootballTalk the vote is expected to go in favor of the Vikings.
