Peterson restructures contract with Vikings; report says $20 million guaranteed

The three years remaining on Adrian Peterson contract have been restructured, the Minnesota Vikings announced today.

Terms of the contractual changes won't be made public per team policy, but Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports Peterson will receive $20 million in guarantees.

"While the full details have been hard to nail down, common sense suggests that the Vikings fully guaranteed the $13 million Peterson was due to make in 2015, with the other $7 million being an injury-only guarantee until, for example, the start of the 2016 waiver period or the commencement of the 2016 league year."

Peterson said the deal provides him "additional security."

"I appreciate the Vikings for working together on this restructured contract, which provides additional security for me but also allows opportunities for me to further prove my value to the team and within the NFL," Peterson said in a statement. "It was important for me to continue my career in Minnesota, and I cannot wait to get on the field in front of Vikings fans again."

Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said the deal is "a win for both Adrian and the Vikings and is a positive step toward Adrian finishing his career as a Minnesota Viking."

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports the restructured part of the deal will give Peterson more guaranteed money while lowering his base salary. None of the remaining $46 million on his contract was guaranteed in his original deal.

Peterson was due to make $12.75 million this season, $14.75 million in 2016 and $16.75 million in 2017. He'll be 32-years-old when the contract expires, according to Spotrac.

Peterson just turned 30 in May and Yahoo's Charles Robinson says Peterson will enter training camp on Saturday in the best shape of his life.

All of the drama surrounding Peterson since child abuse charges were imposed on him last September now appears to be over. Through a reported shouting match between a Vikings official and Peterson's agent Ben Dogra, to Peterson suggesting he was unhappy in Minnesota, he will report to camp wearing No. 28 on his jersey like he has every year since being drafted by in 2007.

It's been a good week for Peterson. On Sunday he celebrated his one-year annivesrary with his wife.
