The Minnesota Vikings and the city of Eagan have begun talks that could lead to the Vikings relocating their facilities to the former headquarters of Northwest Airlines.

According to an announcement by the team on, they've submitted a project narrative and design guidelines for the 194 acre facility and are awaiting a response from city.

The Vikings hope to develop roughly 40 acres of the land into a new headquarters building for the team's staff. That would nearly doube the size of their current headquarters at Winter Park in Eden Prairie.

The plans outline a 5,ooo-6,000 seat outdoor stadium that could be expanded to 10,000 seats, along with an indoor practice facility that would have space for multiple fields, and ceilings high enough to accommodate kicking drills.

The team envisions the outdoor stadium as a space versatile enough to host high school football games, soccer and lacrosse matches, and more.

While the practice facility and headquarters would be the development's primary feature, the Vikings and the city of Eagan have projected an adjacent hotel and conference center, as well as a nearby commercial district that would feature several restaurants and housing.
