An agreement is expected to be announced during a press conference at 9:00 a.m. The new stadium site would be located near the Metrodome. The Vikings would be able to play the next two to three seasons at the Dome.
The Star Tribune reports Vikings vice president Lester Bagley and Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission chairman Ted Mondale are looking at a site southeast of the Metrodome. Bagley told the newspaper "it would be ideal to build a stadium next door and play in the Dome." If the team plays at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank stadium, it could cost an estimated $48 million for up to three seasons.
Stadium builders have started studying the potential environmental effects of replacing the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis, including traffic during and after construction, air and water quality and the impact of the stadium lights, MPR reports. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority is taking public input on the environmental impact through the end of the month. The full report is due next summer.
