On second thought, nevermind.
WCCO says the Vikings are no longer asking for a stretch of Chicago Avenue near U.S. Bank Stadium to be changed.
The team applied to the City of Minneapolis to rename the portion that runs alongside the new stadium to “Vikings Way,” since Chicago is a division rival.
The Vikings argued there are precedents for this:
That stretch of Chicago is already known also as Kirby Puckett Place (so "Vikings Way" would be its third moniker). And a section of 3rd Avenue North near Target Field was renamed “Twins Way” after Target Field opened in 2010.
But the planning commission denied the Vikings' request earlier this week.
The Vikings are now dropping it, with the Star Tribune speaking to Vikings Vice President Lester Bagley about the decision. Bagley blamed strong negative reaction at City Hall.
