Vikings will put in new field at TCF Bank Stadium

TCF Bank Stadium doesn't meet NFL standards for a number of things, so the Minnesota Vikings will need to make some changes before they make it their home for two seasons starting in 2014.

The biggest change will be to the field, which will be changed completely, according to Vikings' vice president of public affairs Lester Bagley.

“We are going to tear it up,” Bagley tells WCCO's Pat Kessler. “A new field will be put in without any of the markings. So it will be a green field that we can paint our logo on Sundays and Gophers logos on Saturdays.”

A decision on how the Vikings will heat the field has yet to be made. They could install heated coils beneath the field turf, or cover it with a heated blanket.

Per Kessler's report, the Vikings will have to make a number of other adaptions.

  • Find space for 52,000 season ticket holders. TCF Bank Stadium only holds 50,000.
  • Expansion of concession and alcohol stands.
  • Negotiate sponsorship agreements with US Bank and Pespi. TCF Bank Stadium is obviously associated with TCF Bank, as well as Coke.
