Watch: Augustana's buzzer beater as they shock Division I Iowa

Augustana men's basketball team pulled off a shock Friday night, topping Iowa with a buzzer-beater in an exhibition game.

Although the Sioux Falls-based Augustana Vikings are the highest ranked in Division II, it's still relatively rare for a lower-tier side to have the beating of a Division I team, particularly one that's just been to the NCAA Championships.

The Argus Record reports that Daniel Jansen – himself an Iowa native – hit a jumper as time expired to lift the Vikings over the Hawkeyes 76-74 in front of almost 13,000 fans in Iowa City.

The Hawkeyes were last year ranked 7 in the South region for the Division I NCAA Championships in 2014/15, falling in the round of 16 to Gonzaga, who were in turn beaten by eventual national champions Duke.

Following the Vikings' win, CBS Sports notes that "this kind of stuff happens" in preseason as coaching are "working out their rotations."

It adds that Iowa were playing the top ranked Division II team and were beaten by a shot from a guy "who would look good at any mid-major across America."

Augustana Head Coach Tom Billeter doesn't care for excuses however, telling the Argus Leader:"Sometimes it seems like you almost apologize because you are Division II.

"My kids are good enough to play Division I. Trust me. We have a great academic school. My kids are there to be doctors and lawyers. They get great degrees. They work hard. Maybe out of high school they weren't Division I players, but they work hard and they become pretty darn good."
