David Ortiz continues to dazzle as a 40-year-old in his final year before retirement. But on Tuesday night in Boston he was dazzling with a microphone and a baseball bat.

Before the start of the game between the Red Sox and Giants, Ortiz walked to a microphone on the field with a simple message to fans:

"Let's be kind to each other and choose love," he said, per the Red Sox.

Ortiz's message comes less than a week after NBA stars, including LeBron James, called for athletes to use their platform to help make the world a less violent place.

Papi's mammoth homer

Facing right-hander Jake Peavy and the MLB-leading Giants, Ortiz later connected on a pitch and sent it 442-feet over the right-center field wall at Fenway Park – the longest home run of the year for Ortiz.

"Big Papi" is hitting .327 with 23 home runs and 75 RBI and an OPS of 1.091 this season. Quite simply: He's killing the ball and making fans beg him to avoid retirement.
