It's not often that the highlight of the night comes a team that got destroyed 52-7, but that is the case for college football fans after a crazy play between Minnesota-Duluth and Minot State Thursday night.
Disaster turned into incredible on a first quarter kickoff as returner Cory Carignan muffed the ball into the end zone, then morphed into a human joystick and bounced off tacklers before speeding down the sideline for a miraculous 104-yard touchdown.
Carignan is a true freshman from Colorado, so that was very college game. It's not often that a true freshman opens his college career by going viral, as the highlight has been shared by the likes of SportsCenter, Yahoo! Sports, USA Today and pretty much every other major national media outlet in the country.
The powerhouse Bulldogs racked up 552 yards of total offense compared to just 162 yards for Minot State. UMD is ranked No. 9 in the D2Football.com poll.
Minnesota State is ranked No. 3 in the poll. The Mavericks open play Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University.
