Watch: Ex-Viking Jared Allen announces retirement by riding off on a horse

Jared Allen might have found the coolest way to announce his retirement.

In a video reminiscent of the end of "Shane," the former Vikings defensive end announced his retirement at the age of 33 through his Twitter account, "riding off into the sunset" on a horse.

OK, so there was no sunset visible in the sky, but it was still a stylish way to bring the curtain down on an outstanding NFL career.

"Everyone, I just want to say thank you for an amazing 12-year career," he said. "This was the part where I was going to ride off into the sunset, but since there's no sunset, I'm just going to ride off."

The former fan-favorite arrived in Minnesota in 2008 after being traded by the Kansas City Chiefs, and was part of the 2009 team that went to the NFC Championship and was a Brett Favre interception away from the Super Bowl.

He was traded to the Chicago Bears in 2014 before being traded again a year later to the Carolina Panthers, unfortunately ending his career on a sour note as his team was beaten by the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl earlier this month.

Allen was a monster for the Vikings' defensive line during his six years in Minnesota, racking up 85.5 sacks in that period.
