It doesn't get any crazier than the ending of the state football tournament quarterfinal game between Elk River and Moorhead on Saturday.
Trailing 52-49 with two minutes left in the game, Moorhead got the ball back and capped of a 99-yard scoring drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Trey Feeney to Blake Walthall to take a 55-52 lead with 13 seconds to go.
Game over? No.
Elk River began its drive with five seconds on the clock, and after a rush for a short gain they called timeout with 1.4 seconds remaining.
Before we get to the play that would've made Case Keenum and Stefon Diggs proud, you need to know that Elk River's quarterback, Beau Ruby, had not attempted a pass to that point in the game.
But with no choice, Ruby dropped back to pass and lofted a beautiful ball to the left that Carter Otto caught between four defenders and miraculously evaded sprinted to the end zone for the walk-off 57-yard touchdown. Final score: Elk River 58, Moorhead 55.
