Wayzata guard Camden Heide is heading to Purdue. The 6-foot-6 guard made his commitment official on Tuesday when he announced he will be heading to the Boilermakers on his Twitter account.
According to 247Sports, Heide is the top-ranked Minnesota recruit and in the Class of 2022. Despite missing most of last summer's AAU season with a foot fracture, Heide made up for lost time averaging 17.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while leading the Trojans to the Class AAAA championship.
Heide visited Minnesota's campus last weekend on an unofficial visit and talked with new head coach Ben Johnson but his previous connections with Purdue coach Matt Painter helped make his decision.
While Johnson missed out on Heide, there is still plenty of local talent available in the class of 2022.
Cretin Derham Hall's Tre Holloman is second in 247Sports' rankings and remains uncommitted. The Gophers could also target forwards Ahjany Lee of Byron and Demarion Watson of Totino-Grace.
Both players would be a huge addition for Johnson, who saw 10 players enter the transfer portal from last year's team. With several connections around the state, Johnson will try to rebuild on the fly after taking over last April.
