Westbrook, Thunder send Wolves into offseason with a whimper

The season for the Minnesota Timberwolves has mercifully come to an end. The Wolves lost their season finale to Oklahoma City 138-113 on Wednesday night at Target Center.

Things didn't go well for the Wolves from the early going, as the Thunder took control by opening up an 18-point lead in the first quarter.

Oklahoma City shot 69 percent and scored 47 first-quarter points. Russell Westbrook scored 23 himself in the quarter.

They pushed the lead to 76-54 by halftime. The Wolves didn't play a lot of defense; this effort from Adreian Payne is one example.

Westbrook finished with 37 points; he also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Dion Waiters added 33 and Enes Kanter chipped in 25 points and 15 rebounds.

The Wolves never could climb back into the game after the slow start. Kevin Martin led the way with 29, while Andrew Wiggins added 23. Wiggins was the only Wolves player to start all 82 games this season.

Before last night's game Wiggins confirmed that he would play for the Canadian National team in August.

Zach LaVine also had a double-double on the final night of his rookie season, finishing with 19 points and 13 assists.

As for the future, Flip Saunders didn't say if he would definitely coach the team again next season, but he hinted that he may have some interest.

The Wolves finish with the NBA's worst record at 16-66. They will have the most chances at getting the top pick in this summer's NBA Draft Lottery.
