What is going on with Rickey Foggie and the Eagan football coaching job?

Former Gophers quarterback Rickey Foggie is fighting to be head football coach at Eagan High School.

Foggie, who lives in Eagan, was hired on May 13th and on Monday night he was asked to resign after what he called an "accidental follow" of a Twitter account linked to a pornographic website, the Star Tribune says.

The Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press report Foggie was asked to take down his Twitter account and speak to Eagan football players about it, which he did Monday morning.

But then he was asked to resign.

“I know it ain’t football. I know it ain’t my character,” Foggie told the Pioneer Press. “If it ain’t football, if it ain’t my character, then it’s got to be the color of my skin.”

On Wednesday, Foggie retweeted a few people who disagree with the school's decision to go in a different direction, including one that referenced the firing of a black coach.

"On Monday, Mr. Foggie withdrew his name from consideration for the position," District Communications Director Tony Taschner told BringMeTheNews. "I am aware of what has been reported today but legally am not able to comment on the matter."

Foggie coached at Red Wing High School the past two years.

“This is it for me,” Foggie said in an interview with the Republican-Eagle shortly after being hired at Eagan. “They've been kind of stagnant for a while. The program needed a breath of fresh air, a spark, some new energy. That's something I can bring, to get the kids competitive."
