While the Twins struggled, Brian Dozier's season was epic

Brian Dozier will be carrying a lot of hardware after Twins' Diamond Awards.

Brian Dozier had one of the greatest offensive seasons in Minnesota Twins history. It's really too bad it happened on a team that finished 59-103.

Wednesday the Twins announced that Dozier won three postseason team honors – including the Calvin R. Griffith Award as the Most Valuable Twin.

Dozier finished the season hitting .268 with 42 home runs, 99 RBIs and 104 runs in 155 games. He set an American League record for most home runs by a second baseman and became the first Twin since Harmon Killebrew to hit 40 home runs in a single season.

Dozier also received the Charles O. Johnson Award for Most Improved Twin and the Bob Allison Award, which is given to the Twins player who exemplifies determination, hustle, tenacity, competitive spirit and leadership both on and off the field.

Voting on the awards was conducted by the Twin Cities chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

They will be presented to Dozier and the other Twins' winners during the 12th annual Diamond Awards on Jan. 26 at Target Field.

Others receiving awards of note:

  • Max Kepler – will receive the Bill Boni Award for the team's Most Outstanding Rookie
  • Ervin Santana – was named the Joseph W. Haynes Award winner for Twins Pitcher of the Year
  • Byron Buxton – won the Jim Kaat Award, for Twins Defensive Player of the Year
  • Terry Ryan – will be honored with the Mike Augustin "Media Good Guy" Award
