The Twins weren't able to avoid a sweep and lost to Chicago Sunday, 9-2. Dayan Viciedo and Adam Dunn homered off Scott Diamond, and the White Sox scored six runs in the sixth inning. Joe Mauer homered in his return after missing five games with back spasms but Minnesota wasn't able to avoid the loss.

Twins overwhelm White Sox with big innings

The Twins scored seven runs in the second inning and 10 more in the fifth to overwhelm the White Sox, 18-9 in Chicago Tuesday night. The Twins used only two extra base hits between the two innings -- a three-run homer from Chris Parmelee and an RBI triple from Trevor Plouffe.

Losing pitcher Scott Diamond gave up the winning run after taking a line-drive to the stomach and throwing wide in his attempt to nab the Sox runner at the plate.

Cole De Vries gave the Twins a chance to win, but the bullpen was blown apart in the seventh and eighth innings -- giving up nine runs and allowing the White Sox to come from behind for an 11-4 win. Josh Willingham provided the Twins’ firepower with his 24th and 25th homers of the season.
