Who is Mike Conley? The highest paid player in the NBA that's who

It's not Michael Jordan. It's not Kobe Bryant. It's not Shaquille O'Neal, Lebron James or Steph Curry. But the highest paid player in NBA history is Mike Conley.

Who? (Don't worry we had to ask too)

Conley has reportedly agreed to a five-year $153 million contract – the largest contract in NBA history. Last season he averaged 15.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for Memphis. The Big Lead notes that all of those numbers along with his field goal percentage and 3-point percentage decreased.

What's more, the 28-year-old point guard has never made an All-Star Game or been named to an All-NBA team.

So why would the Grizzlies pay that kind of money for him?

Pro Basketball Talk calls Conley one of the best defensive point guards in the league. The website says Conley would have been an All-Star, but his game is overshadowed by some other great point guards in the west (Curry, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard and Tony Parker).

The other reason: NBA free agent contracts on Friday appeared to be swelling at an uncontrollable rate with the new $94 million salary cap.

We'll see what all that big spending means when Kevin Durant signs his contract.
