Wild beat Stars, Ryan Suter deflects winning goal off defender's 'nutcup'

It's also sometimes referred to as a "Shock Doctor."

Ryan Suter scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to help the Wild win in Dallas 3-1 Friday night.

The game was scoreless through two periods before Jason Spezza beat Devan Dubnyk to give the Stars a 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the third period.

It stayed that way until Matt Dumba's third goal of the season tied the game at the 9:37 mark of the third, and Minnesota took a 2-1 lead when Ryan Suter's shot ricocheted off a defender and in for a goal with 7:06 remaining.

Suter told The Athletic's Michael Russo that he was aiming for the defenseman's shin guard but he missed his target and hit him .... somewhere else.

"I don’t know how else to say it, his nutcup," Suter said, per Russo.

Suter finished with a goal and an assist and reached 500 points in his career.

Zach Parise scored an empty-net goal to push the Wild lead to 3-1.

Minnesota is back in action at home Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
