Blue Jackets blank sloppy Wild

The momentum from beating the Blackhawks in come-from-behind fashion didn't last long as a sluggish Minnesota Wild team lost to the Blue Jackets, 4-0 Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Columbus attacked the scoreboard first when Cam Atkinson took advantage of a turnover by Jared Spurgeon and fired a puck past Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom midway through the second period.

Columbus grabbed a 2-0 lead a little more than four minutes later when Ryan Foligno's backhand found its way to the back of the net.

The Blue Jackets peppered Backstrom with shots throughout the game, including an impressive 18 to 8 edge in shots in the second frame.

Goals by Boone Jenner and RJ Umberger put the game out of reach in the third.

Columbus outshot Minnesota by a large number, 41-20.

Minnesota will rest in Minnesota on Saturday before hosting the talented San Jose Sharks on Sunday. It will be an important game because seven of the next eight games will be on the road.
