Blue Jackets 2

Wild 3

No more firsts for Wild opponents. Minnesota beat Columbus 3-2 Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center to avoid losing to a previously winless opponent for the third straight game.

1. A balanced attack

Seven different Wild players had points in the Wild victory. Jared Spurgeon was the only player with more than one, finishing with two assists.

Zach Parise, Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek scored the Minnesota goals. Ryan Suter, Miko Koivu and Jason Zucker had assists.

2. Dubnyk defensive in net

Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk played one of his best games of the season Thursday night. Dubnyk stopped 27 shots, which included a few of those highlight reel saves that made him a finalist for the Vezina Trophy last year.

3. Slow start after another long layoff

It's hard to believe but the Wild have already had a couple of long layoffs in the young NHL season. Minnesota looked sluggish at the outset after having four days off since last playing in Anaheim on Sunday.

That slow start for the Wild allowed the winless Blue Jackets to take a 2-1 lead after the first period, but the Wild battled back to tie it in the second and eventually win it.
