Goodbye Omaha and hello Minnesota. Nick Seeler, a former Eden Prairie hockey standout, is transferring to the University of Minnesota from Nebraska-Omaha, according to the Pioneer Press.

Seeler, a defenseman, was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.

NCAA transfer rules will force Seeler to sit out the upcoming season. In two years with the UNO Mavericks, Seeler scored six goals and totaled 19 points. Jason Gonzalez of the Star Tribune says Seeler will have two years of eligibility remaining when he begins playing for Don Lucia and the Gophers next year.

Seeler is the only member of his family to play for the Gophers. FOX Sports North notes that his sisters Kelly (hockey) and Ashley (soccer) also played at the U of M.

Seeler commanded the blue line at Eden Prairie with fellow Gopher teammates Mitch Rogge and Kyle Rau, who scored winning goal in triple overtime against Duluth East to win the 2011 Class 2A State Championship.
