Wild GM Chuck Fletcher: 'We have no interest in trading Backstrom'

Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher tells the Star Tribune there is no way they are trading Niklas Backstrom. Fletcher loves the goalie tandem that Backstrom and Josh Harding provide. He points out that the duo was one of the main reasons the Wild were on top of the NHL over the first 30 games last season.

Wild's Backstrom needs ankle surgery

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher tells the Pioneer Press that goalie Niklas Backstrom will soon undergo surgery to fix an ankle injury that bothered him during the last few weeks of the season. Fletcher also expects Guillaume Latendresse, Pierre Marc-Bouchard and Jared Spurgeon to make full recoveries from their concussions and be ready for next season.

With Backstrom hurting, Wild recall Hackett

Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher believes the Wild is in a tremendous position to sign free-agents next off-season and grow with talented young prospects already in the system. He says the combination of the two will help the Wild "get better quickly." He says the next step is adding some "top-end guys" to the team.

Backstrom expects to return soon

Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom practiced for a second day in a row Tuesday, and he could return to game action before the end of the season. Backstrom says, "I'm trying to do everything I can so it will be soon." He injured his groin in a March 1st game against Montreal.

It's time for Backstrom to wake-up

Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom is 1-6-2 in his last eight games played. Minnesota has lost 11 of 13 games overall, so it's not all Backstrom's fault. But that didn't stop ProHockeyTalk from calling out Backstrom in its weekly edition of "Wednesday Wake-Up Call."
