Charlie Coyle scored the only goal for the Minnesota Wild midway through the first period of their game against the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night, and it turned out to be the only one they needed.

Thanks to stifling defense and Devan Dubnyk's work in front of the net, the Wild got the 1-0 shutout, their fifth straight victory, at Xcel Energy Center, the Star Tribune reports.

Minnesota outshot Colorado 29-18.

It was Dubnyk’s second straight shutout and his fourth in nine starts with the Wild. Since Minnesota acquired Dubnyk in mid-January, the team is 7-1-1 in those nine games.

In the process, the Wild moved up one spot in the Western Conference standings from 10th to ninth, trading places with the Avs.

The Wild have beaten the Avalanche in all three of their games so far this season. They also beat Colorado in the first round of the playoffs last season, the St. Paul Pioneer Press notes.
