Minnesota Wild 6

The Minnesota Wild are back in the Western Conference playoff picture following their 6-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday night at the Xcel Energy Center.

1. Quick start, strong finish

The Wild bookended the night with a pair of three-goal periods. After the Avalanche took a 1-0 lead 33 seconds into the game, the Wild responded by putting three goals on Semyon Varlamov in the first.

Colorado evened it up in the second, but Minnesota rallied for three more goals in the third.

2. Pre-birthday present for Coyle

Charlie Coyle had a pair of goals. The first was the game-winner at the 5:34 mark of the third period, which gave Minnesota a 4-3 lead.

Coyle's second goal was an empty-netter that clinched the victory. Not a bad day's work for Coyle, who will turn 24 on Wednesday.

3. Haula keeps the hot hand

Erik Haula's ninth goal of the season came on a breakaway in the first period. It was his fourth goal in Minnesota's last nine games. He's also had six assists in that time.

Tweet of the Night:

The win moves the Wild back into the playoff picture. Minnesota and Colorado remain tied for the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference.

The Wild technically jump ahead of the Avalanche – because Minnesota has more games remaining.
