Wild soar past Flyers with two third period goals
The Wild had lost four straight going into their matchup with Philadelphia Monday, but bounced back behind two third period goals to defeat the Flyers 2-0 at Xcel Energy Center.
Josh Harding made his third consecutive start in net after giving up two goals in each game of Minnesota's home-and-home over the weekend against Colorado, and posted a shutout against the second-to-worst Eastern Conference offense of Philadelphia.
After both teams failed to score in the first two periods, winger Jason Pominville got Minnesota on the board 3:52 into the third, and Charlie Coyle scored just 57 seconds later.
The Flyers pulled starting goalie and former Chicago net-tender Ray Emery with 3:16 left in the game, but the extra attacker didn't yield any scoring for Philly, who drop below .500 to 12-13-2.
The Wild improve to 16-8-5, and now sit just one point behind the Aves for third in the Western Conference.
Minnesota is off until Thursday, when they host the conference-leading Blackhawks.
