Felony charge against Boogaard's brother dropped

A Hennepin County judge has dismissed a felony charge against the brother of ex-Wild player Derek Boogaard, who died of a drug overdose in May. Aaron Boogaard was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Boogaard still faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly flushing evidence down a toilet.

Wild to honor Boogaard during Nov. 27 game

The Minnesota Wild will honor the late Derek Boogaard before their Nov. 27 game against Calgary at XCel Energy Center. Fans will be given a Boogaard poster and a tribute video will be shown. A donation will also be made to Defending The Blue Line, one of many charities he supported.

The New York Times is reporting that former Wild and Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard had a degenerative brain disease, caused by repeated trauma to his head. Boogaard, who died earlier this year because of a drug overdose, is the subject of a special series focusing on his career, and death.

A New York Times report claims Derek Boogaard was given more than 100 prescriptions for thousands of pills from more than a dozen NHL doctors. He died last year of an accidental overdose of narcotic painkillers and alcohol. The Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers left winger struggled with addiction to some of the very drugs team doctors were providing.
