Outdoor hockey returned to the University of Minnesota for the first time in 80 years.

The Gopher men's and women's hockey teams played outside at TCF Bank Stadium in a rare double header on Friday night.

The Gopher men defeated Ohio State 1-0 on Saturday night. It clinched a night where the Gophers didn't allow a goal to their opponents in either game Friday night.

It was a great showing for the 45,000 fans who mostly filled TCF Bank Stadium for the Hockey City Classic, according to the Star Tribune.

After a scoreless first period, Taylor Cammarata put the Gophers on the scoreboard in the second. He was assisted by Kyle Rau and Justin Holl.

Gopher goalie Adam Wilcox was solid in net for Minnesota he stopped all 21 shots that he faced.

The Gopher men are back in action tomorrow evening, back indoors at Mariucci Arena.

Earlier in the evening, the Gopher women's hockey team beat Minnesota State Mankato 4-0, outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium.

The Gophers (21-1-1) controlled the game over the Mavericks as Minnesota outshot MSU 51-19.

Minnesota used two power-play goals in the game, according to the Pioneer Press.

It was a big night again for Sarah Davis. The senior finished with a goal and a pair of assists in the game, to lead Minnesota. Rachel Bona also played well with a goal and an assist.

Minnesota took the lead early in the first when Meghan Lorence scored to put the Gophers on top off of assists from Davis and Bona.

Bona then netted a goal in the second to push Minnesota's lead to 2-0. Just about a minute later Davis scored pushing the Gophers lead to 3-0.

Then in the third, Jordyn Burns put the Gophers up 4-0 with just over a minute to play.

Gopher goalie Amanda Leveille stopped all 19 shots she faced to get the win for Minnesota.
