Wolves late rally comes up short against Golden State

Nikola Pekovic's right-handed layup with 7.9 seconds to go would have given the Timberwolves the lead, but it fell off the rim and Golden State slipped out of Target Center with a 94-91 victory Wednesday night.

It was Golden State's seventh straight victory at Target Center.

After Pekovic's miss, the Wolves had one more chance to steal a win, when this happened.

Following the "hot potato play," Golden State's Steph Curry stepped to the line with 2.7 seconds remaining and calmly sank both free throws, pushing the Warriors' lead to three.

The Wolves made a ferocious run to get back into the game as they trailed by double figures much of the second half, energizing the Target Center crowd in the closing moments, but still came up short.

Curry finished with 23 to lead Golden State, while Klay Thompson added 14. Andrew Bogut also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Curry is now 14-2 against the Wolves since he entered the NBA.

Kevin Martin led the Wolves with 21. Ricky Rubio posted solid numbers once again. He finished with 18 points, nine boards and five assists. Pekovic finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Golden State didn't have its best night shooting, going just 7-of-27 from behind the arc. But the Wolves shot just 38 percent from the floor.

The Wolves (11-42) are off until after the All-Star Break. They host Phoenix on Feb. 20.
