Wolves struggle to defend, lose exhibition opener to CSKA Moscow

It's a long way until the start of the regular season, but so far the Wolves have not looked promising since reporting to camp.

The Wolves starters were thoroughly handled by their reserve players in the opening two scrimmages in Mankato, and tonight Minnesota struggled defensively, losing 108-106 in overtime to CSKA Moscow at Target Center.

A team loaded with offensive talent, this performance will raise even more questions about the Wolves ability to defend, allowing Moscow to make 52 percent of their field goals, and also collecting 30 assists on their 42 field goals.

CSKA Moscow of the Euroleague is by no means a pushover, with four former NBA players including Jeremy Pargo on their roster. Still, blowing a four-point lead in the minute and a half will not sit well with head coach Rick Adelman.

Derrick Williams led the Wolves in scoring, putting up 21 points and converting clutch three point plays down the stretch, while Kevin Martin added 16 points, though he had to take 15 shots to get there.

Minnesota has exhibition game number two Wednesday against Toronto at 6 p.m.
