Another chance of snow in Minnesota this week?
We're just a few weeks away from Christmas and thus far Minnesota hasn't seen a meaningful snowfall, but the next week has the potential to change that.
As ever with long-range forecasts, a whole bunch can change over the coming days, but as things stand there's the potential for a clipper system to make its way through parts of Minnesota Tuesday into Wednesday.
In its forecast discussion, the National Weather Service says that models are indicating "the period from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday as the most likely to produce snowfall across the area," with the current guidance suggesting it would enter from the northwest, heading southeast across Duluth and northern Wisconsin.
"This trajectory would mean snow is more likely for central to eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin with a lower chance for western Minnesota," the discussion says.
More information regarding the positioning of the jet stream could impact where the snow falls on Wednesday. As things stand, the Canadian model is indicating that the system could clip somewhere in the region of the Twin Cities, though the Euro and American models are less confident of snow in Minnesota.
Interestingly, looking a few days further on, the American model is hinting at some potentially significant snow across Minnesota next weekend.
Take that with a vat of salt however, as neither the Canadian or Euro models are showing anything remotely similar. We're still a week away and a whole lot can change before then, but those eager for snow can cross their fingers.
