Confidence rising for accumulating snow in Minnesota this week
Minnesota could be hit with accumulating snow this coming week, which would constitute a rare sight after a bone-dry winter.
The National Weather Service said in its Sunday update that "confidence is increasing in the potential for accumulating snow across the region Thursday."
At this time, the "where and how much" isn't known, with the NWS noting that there remains a "level of uncertainty" with the system still 3-4 days out.
"However the expected atmospheric scenario will be favorable for potential accumulating snow," it adds, thanks to a system that will enter the state from the southwest.
As of right now, models are suggesting a "swath of snow right across central Minnesota," though variations over the coming days could shift that north or south.
"To sum it all up, it appears increasingly likely that snowflakes will fly and accumulate in some fashion Thursday," the forecast states.
"Specifics with regards to snowfall amount, timing, intensity, and impacts will come into a better picture in the coming days. Should the forecast continue to trend in this direction, travel impacts will become likely Thursday."
It will provide some much-needed moisture in drought-stricken Minnesota, with the Twin Cities metro currently amidst a 30-day dry spell.
