Election Day rain, snow in Minnesota to be followed by blast of Arctic air

Precip Monday and Tuesday will be mostly rain, then it gets much colder.
Publish date:

The Election Day storm that everyone was hyping over the last week isn't going to produce more than an inch of snow across most of Minnesota, but it will bring cold rain Monday and Tuesday with some flakes mixing in from time-to-time.

You can see in the animated future radar simulation that rain will work it's way into southern Minnesota Monday afternoon before changing over to snow as temperatures drop overnight into Tuesday.

The storm system will also serve as the meteorological pace car for a blast of cold air that will follow. The temperatures ahead are truly winter-like, and will be 10-15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Check out these seven-day temperature graphics for Minneapolis, Bemidji, Duluth, Moorhead, St. Cloud and Mankato. Daily highs will be in the 20s to low 30s throughout the state, and Bemidji is king of the cold on Thursday and Friday with highs struggling to break 20.

Temperatures are expected to remain 10-15 degrees below normal through the weekend and into early next week, so don't be stunned if Tuesday is the last time you experience 40+ degrees outside for a while.

Not much to worry about precipitation-wise, although bouts of light snow are possible later this week with little to no accumulation anticipated.
