Freezing drizzle could create icy roads Thursday morning

It could impact the second half of the morning commute.

Areas of freezing drizzle could impact the second half of the morning commute Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

"Areas of mixed precipitation, mostly in the form of freezing drizzle, will develop mid to late morning and persist into the mid afternoon before turning to drizzle or ending," the weather service said in a special statement Thursday morning.

"Temperatures will be below freezing as the precipitation begins, then slowly rise above freezing during the afternoon. The tail end of the morning commute may be impacted. Conditions should improve by the evening commute with precipitation ending and temperatures a degree or two above freezing."

Light icing is expected, but even the smallest amounts of ice can create hazardous conditions, especially on untreated pavement and surfaces. Sidewalks, roads and bridges will be susceptible to minor icing.
