Jan. 22 Weather with Sven: Saturday snowstorm forecast

Video Duration:

You can get the full forecast for Saturday's snow in Minnesota from the National Weather Service by checking our Weather MN blog, but watch the video briefing for meteorologist Sven Sundgaard's storm preview.

Some key points, per Sven:

  • Snow begins in the metro early afternoon Saturday.
  • Heaviest snow during the afternoon and evening hours.
  • It'll be a fluffy snow.
  • 3-5 inches for the metro.

More specifically, Sven is thinking 2-4 inches for the north metro and 4-5 inches for the south metro.

"Many of us in the heart of Minneapolis-St. Paul, looking at about 4 inches of snow. South-central, southeastern Minnesota, that's where we could see 5-7 inches in some spots there," said Sven.

"The bullseye with this system is going to be our south, and then a lighter, widespread snowfall, just a couple of inches up into northern Minnesota," says Sven. "In the metro, on the northern edge of some of that heavier snowfall.

Meanwhile, MSP Airport has not dipped below zero in January, and if that trend holds for the rest of the month it'll mark just the third time in 147 years of record-keeping (2006, 1990) that it's happened.
