A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued across central Minnesota until midnight, with storms expected to explode this afternoon and evening and move east across the area.
Primary threats with storms that reach severe levels include:
- Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter.
- Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible.
- A tornado or two possible.
The watch doesn't include Minneapolis or St. Paul, though Anoka County is included in the watch.
Here's a video briefing from Novak Weather on what to expect as we go through the rest of the day. He says that once storms pop, they could be quite impressive.
